Vic Mensa Talks Roc Nation, Kanye West & Competition With Chance The Rapper
There’s obviously been a lot going on in Vic Mensa’s life since INNANETAPE dropped, and he’s been an even busier man on the press run for his new EP this month. Last week the Chicago MC stopped by L.A.’s Real 92.3, where he talked to Letty Martinez and DJ Damage about what made him choose Roc Nation over G.O.O.D. Music, his experience writing for Kanye West and why he isn’t feeling most of the music that’s out right now (“it’s just xans, lean, dope, bad bitches. It’s not exciting, it doesn’t make me think about anything”).
When asked about his supposed beef with long-time friend and collaborator Chance The Rapper, Vic said, “yeah. Competition is healthy, though.” Despite appearing to take shots at Chance in a recent LA Leakers freestyle — not to mention very conspicuously editing him out of an Instagram picture — Vic went on to explain why he’s too real for silly beefs, especially with his peoples.
I know beef can get all complicated, but I really pride myself on, my entire life, having been a real straight up dude to everybody around me. I don’t do my people dirty. If somebody was wanting to beef with me, they wouldn’t have all that much ammo. They would have to start digging and making things up, ’cause i just keep it really, really, really real with my guys.
If there’s any hope for Vic and Chance fans, G.O.O.D. Music’s Malik Yusef insists there’s no bad blood between the SaveMoney brothers:
