Bill Clinton sort of apologizes for saying Black Lives Matter defends criminals
Bill Clinton regrets that his comments about Black Lives Matter were taken out of context. The former president of the United States lost his honorary ghetto pass for saying Black Lives Matter activists defending the same criminals who kill the lives you say matter.
“You are defending the people who kill the lives you say matter,” Clinton told hecklers while defending his 1994 anti-black crime bill at a Philadelphia rally on Thursday.
Clinton walked back his controversial statements at a Erie, Penn., rally on Friday. He said, “I almost want to apologize for” his response to a female heckler who was speaking over him at Thursday’s rally.
“I realized I was talking past her the way she was talking past me,” Clinton said of the female protester. “I know those young people yesterday were just trying to get good television, and they did. But that doesn’t mean I was most effective in answering it.”
Clinton said he was “vigorously” defending his estranged wife Hillary Clinton, who once called black youths “super predators.”
Clinton continued defending his 1994 crime bill, saying the laws took savage criminals off the streets.
“It is true that [the bill] led to some people going to jail for too long in ways that cannot be justified. And I went to the NAACP convention last year and said that and said it was way past time to change.”
He added: “I don’t know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack and send them out in the street to murder other African-American children,” he said. “Maybe you thought they were good citizens, she didn’t. She didn’t,” he said referring to Hillary.
Though still married on paper, Hillary and Bill Clinton haven’t lived together under the same roof in years.
