Movie Casting Update: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Might Be Taking on the KKK, Kevin Costner Joins ‘Hidden Figures’

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Costner Have New Roles in the Works

We have carefully searched for all the latest film casting news and compiled all the need-to-know roles making their way to the big screen soon. There are exciting roles on the way for Kevin CostnerMatthias Schoenaerts and Joseph Gordon-Levitt!
Kevin Costner has joined the cast of the prestige pictureHidden Figures alongside Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer. Costner is reportedly going to play the head of the space program attempting to put John Glenn in orbit. Presumably his role is overseeing Spencer and Henson, who play two African American mathematicians who played a key role in Glenn’s achievement. [The Wrap]

A film about the K-141 Kursk submarine disaster is in the works. The incident claimed the lives of 118 Russians in 2000. Matthias Schoenaerts, who recently appeared in The Danish Girl, is set to star in the picture for EuroCorp. Aptly titled Kursk, the film will follow the torpedo explosion that occurred within the submarine during a naval exercise and the Russian government’s refusal to acceptance assistance from American, British and Norwegian navies for five days. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has signed on to produce and possible star in K Troop, a film about the birth of the KKK in the south just after the Civil War and Major Lewis Merrill, the man who led he U.S. Army against the KKK in 1871. The film is based on an as-of-yet unreleased Slatearticle by Matthew Pearl. That’s right. This drama will be adapted from an article that hasn’t even been published yet.
