Finally! Ashanti’s Stalker Convicted After 3 Trials
A Manhattan jury convicted an obsessed fan of stalking R&B singer Ashanti Douglas on Friday.
Devar Hurd, 37, was convicted of felony stalking and harassing the 35-year-old singer. He was convicted in 2009 of the lesser charge of stalking.
The jury of five women and seven men returned their verdict after one full day of deliberations. Two previous juries failed to convict Hurd.
NY Daily News — Hurd faces up to four years behind bars but has been in jail since 2013 in connection to the current case, so he could be released soon given the time he has served. He will be sentenced on March 31.
This is the third attempt to convict him on the top count in his current indictment. His first trial in 2014 resulted in a mistrial because a juror got sick during deliberations. In October, he was convicted on several counts including criminal contempt but the jury could not reach a consensus on the top count.
Hurd, who has delusions that he actually had a relationship with the sexy singer, was convicted in 2009 of stalking and harassing.
