RIP: Vanity, Singer Dies at 57

RIP Vanity
The singer known as Vanity has died following a prolonged illness.
Vanity, whose real name is Denise Katrina Matthews, died from complications of chronic renal failure and gastrointestinal disorder. She was 57.

Matthews passed away in a Fremont, CA hospital on Monday, her family confirmed to TMZ.
The Prince protege was the lead singer of Vanity 6. After the group’s only hit song, “Nasty Girl”, was released in 1982, the singer quit the group and fell on hard times.
After overdosing on drugs in 1994 she was diagnosed with kidney failure.
She kicked the drug habit in recent years and became a born-again Christian, ministered to others about the pitfalls of drugs and the fast life.
Matthews was in church on Saturday evening before she died. She told the congregation she was “ready to go home.”
