Hugh Jackman Reveals He’s Been Treated for Skin Cancer Again

hugh jackman cancer scare

Hugh Jackman is urging fans to wear sunscreen.
The actor took to his Instagram and Twitter on Monday (Feb. 8, 2016) to reveal that he’s been treated for cancer again. He had another growth removed from his nose and is warning his followers about the risks of not protecting oneself in the sun. “An example of what happens when you don’t wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups,” he wrote, alongside a photo of him all bandaged up.

This isn’t the first time the Wolverine star has used social media to warn against skin cancer. His latest treatment marks his third post-op photo in three years, and fourth procedure on his nose. The first time he noticed a cancerous mark was in November 2013 when he was shooting X Men: Days of Future Past. He opened up to People about his fears last June.
It’s always a bit of a shock just hearing the word ‘cancer.’ Being an Australian it’s a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it. I was trying to keep calm about it but it wasn’t until [his skin cancer surgeon] Dr. Michael Albom really explained to me that what I had, in a way, was the kind of skin cancer you want to have if you’re going to have it. Basal cell carcinoma is just something you have to deal with. It’s cancerous. It will grow. You just have to get it out.
Along with the spot on his nose, he has also had skin cancer cells removed from his shoulder. We wish him a healthy and speedy recovery.
