Greatest Films Based On True Events


Based on the famous creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, this 2010 film tells the story of the trials and tribulations of being one of the world’s youngest billionaires. Social media is at its peak, and here we get to see the man who helped create it.


This movie was based on the work of William Wilberforce and his fight to get the House of Commons to put an end to the British slave trade. This 2006 film is not only inspiring, but to think that it is based on true events is remarkable to say the least.


In 2009 was the release of a film based on a young girl who goes through the ordeal of suing her parents for the rights to her own body. This heart breaking story is one of true courage, bravery and sadness, and really makes you think about all of the things that are taken for granted on a daily basis.


This 1993 film was based on the story of how a businessman named Oskar Schindler (who was also a member of the Nazi party). He came to Poland with nothing and saved the lives of over a thousand Jews. The people who he saved are now known as the Schindler Jews. The film is widely credited as being one of the greatest films of all time.

In 1995, everyone was able to watch in great detail what happened on the Apollo 13 expedition. This film is about the heroic efforts of a group of astronauts who were faced with difficulties on their mission. More than just based on true events, the producers worked with NASA in order to provide a great account of events.


This film adaption tells the story of Erin Brockovich, an environmental activist, who single handily took on a Californian gas and electric company that was contaminating the residents water supply with chromium, causing many of them to become ill. It portrays the efforts of how just one individual can make a massive difference, and in doing so, inspiring many.


Telling the harrowing story of a Polish Jewish pianist who lived in one of the German Ghettos during the war. Based on actual memoirs, the life of W?adys?aw Szpilman is shown in great detail. This film shows that even at times of destruction can come acts of unexpected kindness.


This film is still extremely popular worldwide, and with good reason. The Titanic tells the heart-breaking story of love, loss, class discrimination and everything in between. Lives were torn apart when the ‘unsinkable’ ship, sank. There is no part of this film that doesn’t leave its audience on the edge of their seats.


This films plays on all of the emotions, with a feel good ending. Based on the true story of Chris Gardner, who finds himself homeless along with his young son. Rising above and defeating the odds that are stacked against him, the film captures the audience with such an inspirational story of struggle and success.


Hotel Rwanda is a remarkable tale of a hotel manager, turned hero. It tells the story of a man who took the chance that he had to save the lives of hundreds of people in 1994 during the Rwandan genocide. The story is portrayed perfectly and gives a detailed account of what happened, showing the man to be a true inspiration to others.
