Rihanna Performs “Diamonds” & Receives the ‘Icon Award’ at the American Music Awards

Rihanna received quite the honor at the 2013 American Music Awards, as the first ever Icon Award winner on Sunday night.

The pop star, who has sold 180 million singles and 50 million albums worldwide, was introduced by Bill Maher at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Dressed in all-black, RiRi performed her No. 1 single “Diamonds” before accepting her award from Maher.

Along with a video message from the man who discovered her, Jay Z, Rihanna’s mother Monica Fenty appeared on stage to give a speech.

The 25-year-old Bajan beauty closed out the moment by thanking those who have helped her career including her family, L.A. Reid, Jay Z, Tyran “Ty-Ty” Smith, Jay Brown, and her fans.
