Janelle Monáe, Kelly Rowland, Eve, Jennifer Hudson & More Perform at ‘Black Girls Rock!’ 2013
BET celebrates women of color making a positive impact in entertainment and arts with their annual “Black Girls Rock!” special.
Taped last month at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King served as hosts at this year’s event. The biggest honor was awarded to Patti LaBelle, who was presented with the Living Legend Award by Mariah Carey.
Janelle Monáe kicked the performances off with a stepping team, dancing to “The Electric Lady.” Jennifer Hudson showed off a new look, rocking the crowd with her single “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel),” while Kelly Rowland brought Eve and Sevyn Streeter into her world on the “Gone” remix. Queen Latifah, Venus Williams, Mara Brock Akil, Misty Copeland, Ameena Matthews, and Marian Wright Edelmen were also honored for their excellence in music, sports, social activism, and community work.
