Halle Berry Announces Birth of Her Son and TV Deal With CBS

Congratulations to Halle Berry On the Birth of Her Son

Congratulations to Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez on the birth of their son on Saturday. No details have been shared yet, including his name, but the actress’s rep did confirm to US Weekly that the couple had welcomed the boy into the world.
Last April the 46 year old actress made news when she announced her pregnancy. Halle shared with CNN, “This has been the biggest surprise of my life, to tell you the truth. I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful.”
With her announcement she joined a growing list of Hollywood women who experienced pregnancy over the age of 40. Actress Kathryn Morris, who announced her pregnancy the same month that Halle Berry did, was 44 when she gave birth to her twins in August.

The birth of her son isn’t the only big news happening with Halle Berry this week. The Hollywood Reporterhas announced Halle’s two-year first-look production deal with CBS Television Studio. The first project she has committed to is Extant, Steven Spielberg’s 13 episode astronaut thriller. According to statements from CBS, the story focuses on a female astronaut, “who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.”
The Hollywood Reporter shares, “The casting coup of Berry is as much a commentary on the strength of the spec script as it is on the state of the film business, particularly for actresses over 40.”
It seems as though Halle has timed this TV deal perfectly. The schedule of staring in a TV series is nowhere near as tedious as filming a feature film. Halle explains her enthusiasm for this new adventure, “I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium. For five months a year I’ll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I’ll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one.”
Congratulations to Halle, Oliver and big sister Nahla! We can’t wait to hear more details of your new addition’s safe arrival. We also can’t wait for this fantastic sounding thriller you and Spielberg will be bringing us this summer.
